Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, together with the parliament members from Ukraine, Russia, and Kazakhstan who participated in the tour "Final Journey of T.Shevchenko", laid flowers to the monument to Taras Shevchenko in Kyiv. Commenting on the conflicts connected with the use of party symbols during the festivities on 150th anniversary of reburial of T.Shevchenko in Kaniv, M.Tomenko stressed that the biggest national holidays and events should be celebrated under the state flags of Ukraine only.
"Promoting party flags on such events as the 150th anniversary of reburial of T.Shevchenko, the Party of Regions and other parties are trying to turn the event which unites the country into the one which aggravates the conflict in Ukraine," the Deputy Chairman stressed.
M.Tomenko admitted that such an approach was characteristic of the former President as well, when the local authorities tried to make T.Shevchenko a member of "Our Ukraine" party. "Similarly, Cherkasy officials are trying to affiliate Taras Shevchenko with the Party of Regions," M.Tomenko stressed. "Actually, he belongs to the Ukrainian people and Ukraine. Only the state flag of Ukraine shall be used at such events."
The Deputy Chairman will also attend the workshop conference on life and works of T.Shevchenko in Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University. The conference is held within the campaign "Final Journey of T.Shevchenko" dedicated to the 150th anniversary of reburial of the Great Kobzar in Ukraine.
